Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors...and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize--one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

SCAVENGER HUNT PUZZLE
Directions: Below, you'll notice that I've listed my favorite number. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the blue team, and then add them up (don't worry, you can use a calculator!).
Entry Form: Once you've added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.
Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian's permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by APRIL 7th, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

This was the very first scene I wrote when I started working on Loveday’s story. I intended to begin the book with Vale’s death, and tell the story from there, but as I got into the story, I realized that it was important to share Vale’s importance to the team before he died. So, the aftermath of Vale’s death became book two, and I wrote what is now book one, For Your Ears Only.
After taking a deep breath, I insert the bobby pin shaped explosive into the door knob and count to ten. A fizz and puff of smoke let me know that it’s done its job. From beside me, Vale nods, holding his gun at the ready. I turn the now warm knob and fling the door open.
The hotel room is empty. All that’s left is an old wooden desk, scratched and scuffed. The bed looks like it wasn’t slept in, and the curtains are shut tight.
Nexus is gone.
Shit.
“The room’s empty,” I huff into the smartwatch on my left wrist.
“Damn,” Lotus responds, his voice sounding perfectly clear as it emanates from the watch’s tiny speaker.
Vale puts a hand on my shoulder. “We’ll find him, Loveday.”
I grit my teeth and shake off his hand. “He was JUST here.”
Vale squeezes my elbow. “I’ll meet you downstairs.”
I nod. Lotus is waiting for us in the surveillance van.
Vale whispers into his smart watch as he leaves the room.
A woman walks down the hallway, invading my peripheral vision. It looks a lot like…
“Mom?” I run out into the hallway. I see her everywhere these days, even though she’s been dead since I was 18 months old.
She’s at the end of the hallway, pushing open the door to the stairs.
I run after her, breathing easily. If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s running.
I push the heavy fire door open and listen for footsteps.
She is above me, moving toward the roof.
“Vale,” I whisper into my watch. “I’m heading toward the roof. Come back me up.”
“Done.” The word comes from just behind me.
I spin around and Vale is there, all six feet of boxy muscle and pointed chin.
Vale nods slowly, nudging me forward with a slight lift of his head.
I give him a tight smile before drawing my gun and climbing the stairs.
“There’s someone on the roof. Looks like a woman.” Lotus’s voice sounds thin coming from my watch.
“Hurry,” I call over my shoulder.
I pump my legs, taking the stairs as quickly as I can, given that I’m only 5’2”.
Vale outpaces me, his extra length an advantage. He reaches the top landing first, and, without waiting for me to take up position behind him, he opens the door to the roof.
The sound of a gun being fired cracks the air, and Vale lurches backward, his hand rising to his neck. Blood seeps from between his fingers. His gun clatters to the floor.
“VALE!” I shout as a I try to support his crumbling body, but my legs buckle. I can’t do it.
My knees smack the cold cement and Vale lands on top of me.
“Vale, please don’t,” I whisper, but the still of his chest tells me it’s already too late.
